GYNAECOLOGY

PCOS– During each menstrual cycle, the ovaries release an egg into the uterus. This process is called ovulation and usually occurs once a month. However, women with PCOS often fail to ovulate or ovulate infrequently, which means they have irregular or absent periods and find it difficult to get pregnant. Women with PCOS typically have irregular or missed periods as a result of not ovulating. Although some women may develop cysts on their ovaries, many women do not.

Ovarian Cysts

An ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac which develops in an ovary. Most ovarian cysts are benign (non-cancerous) and cause no symptoms. Some cause problems such as pain and irregular bleeding. No treatment may be needed for certain types of ovarian cysts, which tend to go away on their own. For other types, an operation may be advised to remove the cyst.
